jack + shaw + elin + colleen + kastle

Every now and then, we have a bugger of a time getting the weather to cooperate with us for a shoot, and the past few weeks of dreary, rainy and cold weather unfortunately had us rescheduling a few times on Colleen + Kastle, and I always feel bad when that happens, but in the case of Colleen's family, it turned out to be a great thing since we got gorgeous weather for their family shoot. In fact, a few minutes in, and I was straight up hot which is a fantastic feeling this time of year (our heater kicked on last night - boo).

So, we got to enjoy one of the last absolutely beautiful days with their amazing family.
No doubt - when you live up here and you have to deal with winters that would make less hearty people cringe at times, you really treasure perfect, Fall days. There's nothing better than getting out with your kids a few last times before things get stupid cold and dressing your kids in Christmas Story style snowsuits becomes the norm. As we type this on a really dreary morning, it's making me smile a ton :).
Ha! Yeah - I keep looking from my monitor to the window, and it's not good outside. I really, really, really hope we get a few more good outdoor play days before winter (though Rich + I are both really looking forward to Dexter in a snowsuit - Murph's first winter, his inability to put his arms down was absolutely hysterical every time he got in the darn thing).
Colleen had asked us if we could get some photos of her whole family on their bikes, which is something all the kiddos really enjoy, and we were all about it. On family shoots, especially when there's 2+ kiddos running around, any sort of activity we can get the kids focused on can free us up to take some fun photos and I think it helps everyone relax, too.
To say I was jealous is an incredible understatement - Shaw + Jack are AMAZING on their bikes. We've been trying to get Murphy to give up his training wheels this summer, but he wanted nothing to do with it, but Shaw + Jack were flying around and were just unbelievable on their bikes. They're both racing this year, and I think that's so ridiculously cool.

Thank you guys for letting us shoot your amazing family. Your kids are totally rad, and we had a blast.

mimi + lolo + katie + tony

Man, do we have the coolest job ever. Seriously, it'd be one thing if we just got to photograph professionally, but it's another ballgame that we get to shoot the people we do. We meet some of the coolest people through our job, and we got to meet one of the greatest families ever last week when we got together with Katie + Tony and their amazing daughters.

Mimi + Lolo are maybe two of the sweetest kids I've ever met, and I hope that our kids turn out half as cool. Since Katie + Tony are definitely more city folk than romp-around-nature types, we headed downtown to play around the city for a fantastic morning.
Believe me, guys, Alyssa has an internal, expansive rolodex of various crumbling brick walls around the city. And, as an FYI to families or couples or bridal parties we're shooting, we definitely take into account what you guys will be wearing when we try to figure out what we're going to be doing where.

So, yeah, your kids are two of the most well-behaved, genuinely nice kids we've ever photographed. And c'mon, how cute are these two girls??
Yeah - to say the least, we had a blast hanging out with them - and did my heart melt when Lolo grabbed my hand when we were crossing the street? Absolutely! It was an absolutely wonderful morning, and we couldn't have spent it with a cooler family.
Rich is working on getting Yelly McYellerton to sleep, so I'm gonna wrap things up here (and because I know Katie is soooo patiently waiting to see these!), but the silhouette? Yeah, that's why we like shooting in the morning. It's funny - I've lived a lot of places that are known for sunrises, but man, does Buffalo knock some sunrises out of the park.

Guys - it was absolutely amazing to meet you and photograph your wonderful family. We adored meeting your girls and hope you're as smitten with these photos as we are!! Thanks so much for trusting us to shoot you and letting us romp around downtown - we had a blast!!
