Father Francis Mary
Recently, Alyssa and I got a call to shoot something a little bit different. Actually, a lot of what we were booked to do was the same, i.e. document an important event in someone's life, inside a church. This time, however, we were shooting Father Francis Mary's first Mass instead of a wedding ceremony.
The Mass was held at St. Luke's Mission of Mercy in Buffalo, where a lot of intensive restoration work has allowed the old church to thrive again.
I think the photos speak for themselves - the friars were there en masse (no pun intended!) to celebrate with Father Francis Mary, and it was a beautiful occasion to be a part of.

Oh wow, that looks like it was really cool to shoot! How do you guys work during a ceremony like that - are you moving around at all or using flashes?

Hi John, thanks for writing.
Alyssa and I try to be as subtle as possible in situations where we could possibly detract from a ceremony. We use long, fast lenses (70-200mm f/2.8 and 85mm 1.8, etc) so we can avoid using flash. Honestly, the light gets to be such an interesting mix of natural and artificial stuff that adding flash to it would just make things even worse for skin tones...and no one would appreciate it.
I can't believe how beautifully you captured the church. Looking at the pictures it seems weird that it was raining that day because the vibe is so glorious. I know that you guys had to really work to get the good shots without being seen, you did a fabulous job!
You captured the spirit of the event - that which is of holiness - thats the gift.
